The purpose of the Nuremburg Trials was to try the captured Nazi officials for war crimes and being responsible for the murders of over 12 million people, and to reveal to the world the horrors of the German actions.

 

2. What crimes were the Nazi leaders charged with?

The Nazi leaders were charged with crimes against the peace, crimes against humanity, conspiracy to wage aggressive war and genocide.

 

3. What is the purpose of the UN Security Council?

The purpose of the UN Security Council is for settling disputes among member nations, maintaining international peace and preventing use of aggression by countries.

 

4. What countries are on the UN Security Council?

The Big Five – the US, Great Britain, the Soviet Union (Russia), France and China – as well as 10 more temporary nations which are elected for terms of two years make up the UN Security Council.

 

5. How does the UN Security Council operate?

The Security Council has the right to ask questions to any parties involved in a dispute it is considering, and with the permission of the country(ies) it may send a delegation of representatives to investigate. After the investigation, the 15 member nations discuss an appropriate solution for the problem. The Big Five have the right to veto any decision made by the council.
