    Cabinet: group of advisers to the president

    Tariff: tax charged on imported goods.

Secretary of State – oversee foreign relations with other countries

Alexander Hamilton

Secretary of Treasury – manage government’s money

Edmund Randolph

Attorney General – advise government on legal issues

Alexander Hamilton’s job was the hardest since neither of the other secretaries had that much of a serious issue to deal with at the time, but Hamilton was responsible for stabilizing the nation’s economy which would affect future generations.

 

3. a. The purpose of Washington’s cabinet was to delegate some of his tasks to other people and to advise him on matters.

    b. The new government had to pay back its debts to other countries and to citizens.

    c. Hamilton’s plan attempted to increase the flow of money between the people, businesses and the government, thus increasing the cash flow.

 

4. Jefferson was a conservative, and believed that the Constitution should be interpreted for its literal meaning and since it did not mention anything about the national bank, he believed there should not be one. Hamilton however, believed in a loose construction of the Constitution and he thought that the government has all the powers necessary to carry out its duties, including creating a national bank.
